Question by Lololol: Possible to get loans for undergraduate AND medical school?
My family is short on money and I have saved up for college… I have a 3.8 GPA in high school – Is it possible to get loans for my undergraduate tuition and medical school? Do the loans go on my credit, or is it based on my parents credit? Theirs isn’t very good :(

Yes you can get loans for both undergrad and medical school just not at the same time. Since you have you graduate from college first and then you have to be accepted into medical school. Also, since you say your family does not have/make a lot of money be sure to fill out your FAFSA every year you attend college that way you will get any grants/government loans that are available to you. If this does not cover all of your expenses I would suggest looking into private loans. For these you would most likely need a credit worthy co-signer. It would both go on yours and your co-signers credit.

Q&A: Plus student loans and medical school?

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Question by wormhole: Plus student loans and medical school?
I am going to UCSD next year and have to take out some student loans. I need to know when I will have to pay them back. I will probably take the “plus loans” and go to medical school after 4 years. Then do I have to give them back during my residency or what?

You have to pay loans until AFTER you finish school and since you’re attending medical school after your undergrad degree, I believe you don’t have to pay them back AFTER you’re done with med school because you’re still considered a student.

How long did it take you to pay off your medical school loans?

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Question by ♫amazing♫: How long did it take you to pay off your medical school loans?
Was becoming a doctor worth all the debt.
I want to be a doctor so bad but I will be in so much debt.
Is it really that bad?

Dont worry about the debt.
I am a vet student in London. My loans are about (1800*3)+3000 per year (8400), and my course is 5 years, which means that when I come out I will be in about £42,000 in debt (about ,000 if your in the usa). Even so, in england you pay 9% of what you earn above £18,500, per year, and the interest is presently about 3% on loans. You (and me) will be making good money when we qualify, so what does it really matter? If you really ant to be a doctor, dont worry about the debt, you can pay it off when you qualify and it’ll be fine. Just go for what you want to do.

Hope this helps, email me if you want

Ashley
