Question by bizman: Can I get a car/auto loan?
I am 22 years old going back to a out of state college in January. I have been driving my father’s car for last 3 years and have been helping him to pay off the car loan. Now, I want to take over his car by taking out a loan myself and take the car with me to the college. Before I go into a bank and fill out the application, I want to know if I will qualify for a loan, and if I would, what will be a rough interest rate that I can expect to get.

You should definitely be able to get the loan. Depending on the interest where you live the payments will probably be around 0. I am only throwing out that figure cause my daughter just went for a car loan for 000 and it was for 6 years and then quoted her 0 a month. You have good credit and the interest should be between 6-8%. If you go for a personal loan the interest will be higher. don’t bite off more than you can chew though and have to rely on your credit cards to live. You will likely qualify, but honestly you might not need the car and it would be far better for you to not take this on. On at 36 month term you are looking at between $300-$400 each month as the cost of ownership (payments, insurance, gas, maint.) That is a lot of money that could be spent on beer and pizza for those late night study sessions.
